My Mission

Countless candidates are rejected from jobs due to completely avoidable mistakes. In the resume reviewing phase, there are times that within 5 seconds recruiters have already reviewed and moved on to the next resume. Even if they are qualified! Whoever said "don't judge a book by its cover" was definitely not a resume screener.

My goal is to provide guidance that instills confidence and leaves a lasting impression on hiring teams. I have been fortunate to help so many candidates navigate the job seeking process and I look forward to enhancing my reach and impact with DrewUp.

About Me

I purposely put this at the bottom because, like a great resume, it’s critical to put the most important information at the top of the page. In case you are wondering, “who the heck does this guy think he is?” here is a little about me!

My recruiting career kicked off in 2014 when I joined the UW Football program as a recruiting assistant. I love football, but I couldn’t tell you the first thing about recruiting, or what to look for on tape other than “big, fast, and strong.” I am proud of the way my time there grew from stocking the fridges to still stocking the fridges but also managing the recruiting process for one of our position coaches. I became one with Hudl, the site we used to watch and edit player film, and hosted prospective players and their families on campus for visits. We were later featured in the NY Times “The Athletic” for our unique role in uncovering prospective athletes. I guess I know ball.

After hanging up the metaphorical football cleats, I took my wrinkled button down shirt over to Amazon where I was introduced to the fast-paced, competitive world of tech recruiting. Working for my boss, Alexa, I partnered with hiring teams to bring on top talent, primarily software engineers and product managers. This is where I learned the science of recruiting and was fortunate to have so many inspiring mentors and leaders.

I was also nominated to join the Bar Raiser program at Amazon, where I served as an external third party on interview loops to ensure every new hire was a quality, long-term hire for the organization, not just filling an immediate need.

After 4.5 dog years at Amazon, I made another big move to where I am today at the Gates Foundation. I now support recruiting across roles ranging from EdTech, to Agriculture development, to Immunization, to finance. Yes, we do all of those things and more under one roof. I love my job. It has taught me the art of recruiting and I’ve gotten the chance to hire for some of the most impressive and inspiring positions in my career.

Throughout my recruiting tenure I’ve seen profiles ranging from “QB at insert high school” to “Software Engineer at Google” to “Immunization Specialist at the WHO” - these profiles could not have less in common in their archetypes, but the name of the game has not changed - hire the best!
